PSNI Seek Driver After Speeding Car Hits A1 Barrier
Police are appealing for information to help trace the driver of a car which smashed into a barrier after travelling at speeds of up to 100mph.
Officers said that on Thursday 15 November at approximately 11am the Audi A3 was seen speeding along the A1 carriageway.
A post on PSNI's Newry Facebook page said: "The driver lacked the skill to keep the car on the road at that speed and struck the crash barrier. Then he legged it.
"This happened just at the junction of the A1 and the Tierney Road.
"The helicopter was on the scene in minutes, closely followed by car crews and then shorty after a doggy. Despite our best efforts the driver got away…for the meantime."
The suspect also left some documents in the car with varying names and officers are working with Gardai officers to identify him.
"Our own forensic examination will follow."
Investigators are appealing to anyone who was driving on the carriageway and may have been overtaken by the Audi to contact them. "If you have dash cam footage of the car or even better of the suspect hoofing it away please get in touch!"
