Field Of Remembrance Opens At Belfast City Hall

The Field of Remembrance has officially opened at Belfast City Hall.

Hundreds of poppies on crosses have been placed at The Cenotaph to mark the centenary end of the First World War.

The Royal British Legion memorial is a tribute to all of those who lost their lives in the two World Wars and in subsequent wars.

It is one of six Fields of Remembrance across the UK.

Irish Govt Accepts Remembrance Sunday Invitation
The Irish government has said it has accepted an invitation by the British government to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph during this year's Remembrance Sunday ceremony. Dublin has accepted the invitation to attend the ceremonies on 9 November 2014 in recognition of the Irish men and women who have served in the British Armed Forces.

War Memorial Attacked In North Belfast
A European Great War Memorial has been attacked in north Belfast. The incident happened in the Woodvale area overnight. Republican slogans were sprayed over the memorial to soldiers who died in World War One and the Peace Tree was also daubed and kicked over. It is the third time the memorial has been attacked in the last three weeks.

Lottery funding aids schools' WWII history lessons
The New Opportunities Fund today launched National Lottery funding to enable Northern Ireland pupils to learn about the experiences of veterans of the Second World War. The scheme, 'Their Past – Your Future', is a UK-wide schools and education project which is being developed by the Imperial War Museum.
