Investigation After Neil Lennon Hit By Coin During Match

Police are investigating after Lurgan man Neil Lennon was struck by a pound coin thrown from the crowd during a match in the Scottish Premiership.

The Hibernian manager was hit in the face during their game against Hearts in Edinburgh on Wednesday 31 October.

It happened after Hearts player Clevid Dikamona's goal was ruled out for being offside.

The game was held up while Mr Lennon received treatment.

"I'm very, very angry," he said later.

"I'm fizzing about it. It's disgraceful. I don't blame the club- you can't legislate for the hatred of some individuals or the badness.

"What possesses people to throw things on to a football pitch I will never know."

Hearts goalkeeper Zdenek Zlamal was also floored by an apparent attack from a supporter during the game at Tynecastle Park.

Police Scotland described the incidents as "mindless acts of violence" and said officers are investigating.

It was also confirmed that a 25-year-old man has been arrested in relation to an alleged assault on an assistant referee during the game, which finished goalless.
