Police Investigate 'KKK Costumes' As Hate Incident
Reports that a group of people dressed as Ku Klux Klan (KKK) members posed for pictures outside an Islamic prayer house are being investigated as a hate incident, police have said.
Images posted on social media over the weekend show individuals dressed as members of the far-right group in Newtownards, County Down.
The KKK was based in the United States and was responsible for lynchings and mob attacks on black citizens.
Police received a report on Sunday 28 October about people wearing the costumes in the Greenwell Street area of the town.
Inspector Richard Murray said: "Hate crime, in all it's forms, is totally unacceptable. It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to ensure that we live in a society where diversity is respected."
Enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and police have appealed for anyone with information or who may be able to identify those involved to contact them.
