Suspensions Lifted At Three NI Care Homes

Suspensions imposed on a care home firm at the centre of recent controversy have been lifted after inspectors found improvements at three of the residential facilities.

Runwood Homes made headlines in June when the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Older People severely criticised care at the Dunmurry Manor care home.

The company agreed to "pause" taking new residents into three of it's other homes in the Glengormley, Belfast and Ballymena areas.

Follow-up inspections have since allowed Runwood Homes to resume it's normal process of taking admissions.

The three affected residences were Glenabbey Manor in Glengormley, Clifton Nursing Home in Belfast and Rose Court in Ballymena.

Northern Ireland's health watchdog, the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) carried out the inspections.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Runwood Homes said it has "successfully implemented improvement requirements" that had been earlier defined by the RQIA.

"We hope that our latest news will give the local communities surrounding our homes assurances that there are no concerns," said the company's chief operating officer, Gavin O'Hare Connolly.

"Runwood homes are running a professional and stable service where care quality meets the levels expected and set by the trusts and nursing and residential care home standards."
