Man Seriously Injured In West Belfast Altercation

A man has been taken to hospital after being found suffering from serious injuries in a flat in the Woodbourne court area of the Suffolk Road in west Belfast.

Detectives are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. They believe an altercation took place between the evening of Saturday 13 October and when a report was made to police at 12.50pm on Sunday 14 October.

Detective Sergeant Dane said he is appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, or anyone with any relevant information to get in touch.

Complaints About Rowdy Belfast Students Fall By A Third

The amount of complaints about rowdy and anti-social behaviour in Belfast’s main student area have fallen by a third compared to last year, Belfast City Council has said.

The figures come a month into the new university term and are in relation to the beginning of term when the celebratory 'freshers' period takes place.

Most of the complaints lodged were about noise.

"From September 24 to October 3, 2018, a total of 36 anti-social behaviour complaints were received as compared to 56 during the same period last year," the council has said.

Three of these complaints were referred on to the PSNI, while most were dealt with by the council by way of warnings or referrals to university.

The council said the 33% decrease in complaints follows "concentrated and ongoing work" by community safety officers and partner agencies, including the PSNI and the universities themselves.
