Warning for Glider Users As Grace Period Ends
Translink has issued a warning to users of it's Glider Service, informing them that the grace period is coming to an end and the penalty fare scheme will begin operating on Monday 15 October.
From the beginning of next week, anyone caught without a ticket will face a penalty of up to £50.
The off-board ticketing system is a new system for Northern Ireland, hence the 'honesty' period used in the introductory weeks.
Translink General Manager David Curry said: "We have been pleased to see how quickly passengers have got used to the new off-board ticketing-system and we now plan to implement the penalty fare system for anyone found travelling without a ticket.
"We want to protect the vast majority of passengers who do pay the correct fare for their travel, and to tackle those who attempt to travel fraudulently."
Mr Curry also detailed the various payment methods, including smart cards, using cash or credit cards at ticket machines or using the mLink app.
"Whichever you choose the message is simple, don't forget to tap or buy before you board your Glider or you may be liable for a penalty fare of £50 plus the full single fare of the journey."
Customer Revenue Protection Officers will be patrolling the Glider network from the activation of the penalty scheme on Monday onwards.
