Motorcyclist Killed In Newry Collision Named

A motorcyclist killed in a collision in Newry has been named as 57-year-old Martin Harvey.

Mr Harvey, from the Newtownards area, was fatally injured in a single vehicle collision on Fathom Line at about 11.30am on Sunday, 23 September.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Lord Mayor Welcomes Young Basketballers To City Hall

The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Deirdre Hargey recently welcomed young basketball players from across Belfast, as well as some special visitors from the United States to Belfast City Hall to learn more about the game ahead of the 2018 Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic basketball tournament.

Commenting on the ongoing relationship between Belfast City Council and the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic, Councillor Hargey said: "Belfast City Council is delighted to support and welcome the Belfast Classic to the city for the second year running - on what looks to be another great sporting showcase enjoyed by locals, visitors and an international audience.

"Last year, the event brought 10,000 spectators to the SSE Arena and was viewed in millions of homes in the US via CBS Sports Network coverage, generating around £750,000 to the local economy too.

"It builds on Belfast's sister city and economic, tourism, youth, cultural and academic links with the US and I very much look forward to an exciting weekend of sporting action in the city from 29 November to 01 December."

Glider Unable To Make Turn On Comber Road In Dundonald

Major traffic delays were caused when a Glider bus became stuck while trying to turn a corner in the Dundonald area.

It is understood that the bus was using a diversionary route this afternoon when it was unable to make a turn Comber Road. Engineers had to assist the bus in manoeuvring out of the turn.

The DUP leader of Belfast City Council has questioned the funding of West Belfast Festival over alleged "pro-IRA singing" at one of their events. Councillor Ald Brian Kingston raised the issued after it was alleged that the crowed at a concert at the Festival chanted "ooh ah up the Ra".
