A search of business premises near Hillsborough yesterday has netted what is thought to be the largest ever seizure of cannabis in Northern Ireland.
Drugs Squad officers, accompanied by uniform police, carried out a search of buildings in the Annahilt area of Hillsborough on Tuesday.
The drugs, which had been concealed in tins secreted within boxes, had an estimated street value of £2.75 million.
A police spokesperson said: "Drug Squad officers are satisfied that they have severely disrupted a highly organized criminal gang".
One man was been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.
Security Minister and Chair of the Organised Crime Task Force Jane Kennedy congratulated the PSNI on the largest ever seizure of cannabis in Northern Ireland.
Commenting following the find, Ms Kennedy said: "The police and other law enforcement agencies remain relentless in their determination to rid society of evil drug dealers. Drugs are dangerous, and Northern Ireland is a safer place tonight with these drugs now out of circulation. This is another important strike against organised criminals."
