Roads Closed As Storm Ali Hits NI
A number of roads across NI have been closed due to adverse weather conditions as a result of Storm Ali.
The M1 motorway is closed westbound from Black's Road, Dunmurry and east bound from Saintfield Road due to fallen cables. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and exercise extreme caution.
The A2 Bangor Road is closed following a collision close to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.
Storm Ali is expected to bring a very windy spell of weather with gusts of 65-75 mph inland.
The Met Office has warned people to expect:
• Flying debris is likely and could lead to injuries or danger to life
• Some damage to buildings is likely, such as tiles blown from roofs or damage through falling trees and branches breaking
• Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services affected with some roads and bridges closed
• Power cuts with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
• Injuries and danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
Translink have also announced that it is implementing a speed restriction on all lines from 9.30am this morning until further notice. This is expected to lead to some delays to train services.
