Govt Dept And Council Refuse To Reveal Cost Of Clearing Bonfires
The cost of clearing and cleaning two controversial bonfires in east Belfast cannot be revealed due to "commercial sensitivity".
In response to BBC News NI Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), Belfast City Council (BCC) and the PSNI said that they could not disclose the costs involved in operations at Bloomfield Walkway and Cluan Place.
Workers were sent in to both sites on 11 July to clear bonfires that had been built. Armed police had to guard contractors as they carried out the work on behalf of the council.
While the DfI and BCC refused to reveal the information, the PSNI said that it was unable to respond "within the legislative time-frame", due to ""a high volume of requests and reduced staffing levels".
