SSE Airtricity Announces 18% Electricity Price Hike

SSE Airtricity has announced that it is set to raise electricity tariffs by 18% and its gas prices by 11% this autumn.

The company said that it was "disappointed" to have announced the price hikes, but blamed it on the sustained increases in wholesale fuel and transportation costs over the last 12 months.

As a result of the price rises, average household electricity bills are expected to increase by £1.66 a week, and gas bills by around £1.08.

The firm reassured customers that it "would pass on any savings when it could".
