Large Gorse Fire Ongoing In Newcastle

Firefighters are tackling an ongoing large gorse fire in Newcastle.

According to reports, eight fire engines and almost 50 firefighters are at the scene in the Drinahilly Mountain area near Tollymore Forest Park. It is understood that some 10 acres of gorse are affected by the fire.

Specialist wildfire officers are also at the scene. Members of the public have been urged to stay away from the scene of the fire.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has released an appeal to the public following the first gorse fires of the year. NIFRS is asking people to think about the consequences of deliberate fire setting in the countryside and mountains. The Service received 548 emergency calls relating to gorse fires in the first 7 days of April alone.

NIFRS Launches Online Home Fire Safety Check Tool
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has introduced a new online tool to help residents assess their home fire safety. The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

Ongoing Gorse Fire On Cave Hill
A number of firefighters remain at the scene of an ongoing gorse fire on Cave Hill in north Belfast, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) has reported. The NIFRS responded to reports of the wildfire on Wednesday evening.

Fire Crews Tackle Gorse Fire Near Newcastle
A gorse fire which has spread over five hectares has broken out near Newcastle, Co Down. The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said the blaze on the Drinnahilly Mountain close to Tollymore Forest park, started on Wednesday, 18 July. Eight fire appliances and 46 firefighters are working to bring the fire under control.
