Two men arrested following hit and run in stolen vehicle

Police have arrested two men after a hit and run incident involving a stolen car near Bangor.

The car, a Ford Fiesta, was followed by police when it was spotted acting suspiciously in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A police spokesperson said officers followed the car after it failed to stop. The car was then involved in a hit and run incident with another vehicle. Evading police the car travelled almost 10 miles before its driver lost control and crashed in the Strickland's Glen area of the town. Two men were arrested at the crash scene.

The car had been hijacked in the Bryansburn area of Bangor on Tuesday January 6.

Elsewhere, a pedestrian was injured this morning when a car struck him on the Glenavey Road near Moira. Police said that one person was taken to hospital following the incident.

Early morning rush hour traffic was delayed for a time at the nearby Moira M1 roundabout as police investigated the incident.

Policewoman dies following road crash
A policewoman has died in hospital after the armoured Land Rover in which she was travelling crashed near Desertmartin in Co. Londonderry yesterday. Four other police officers in the vehicle were injured in the crash - three seriously - though one escaped with minor injuries.

M2 Reopens Following Vehicle Fire
All countrybound lanes of the M2 have re-opened following a vehicle fire. Smoke from the burning car caused the closure of all lanes between junctions 5 and 6 due to the incident. It is understood that the car was close to the northbound exit at Junction 6 when the fire broke out.

Colin Horner Murder: Man Arrested
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Colin Horner. Mr Horner, 35, was fatally shot in front of his young son in a supermarket car park on Sunday, 28 May. The man was arrested in the Newtownards area on Friday, 16 June. He has been taken to Musgrave Police station for questioning.
