NIFRS Reports 'Exceptionally Busy' Bonfire Night

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said they had an "exceptionally busy" night on Thursday, 11 July.

They received a total of 327 emergency calls within a seven-hour period on bonfire night.

Fire crews respond to 164 incidents, a rise of 23 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The NIFRS responded to 57 bonfire related incidents.

Firefighters also came under attack in L'Derry, Dungannon and Whitehead. No-one was injured, however damage was caused to an appliance.

11th Night Bonfire Night Alert
As the traditional '11th Night' Bonfires loom, there has been a call for 'Safety First'. A senior fire officer at the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) is this week urging people to 'Think Safety First' when building bonfires, and has also underlined a recent reminder not to burn tyres.

NIFRS Record 40% Drop In Bonfire Incidents
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service has recorded the lowest number of bonfire related incidents in the past four years. Figures released pertaining to callouts on Thursday 11 July, as the loyalist community celebrated by lighting pyres across the country, show a 40% fall in incidents when compared with 2018.

Teenager Suffers Burns At Eleventh Night Bonfire
A teenage boy has been hospitalised after suffering burns at an Eleventh Night bonfire in north Belfast. The incident took place in the early hours of Monday morning, 12 July, at around 12.30am in the Silverstream Crescent Area. He sustained burns to his face and body and remains in hospital at this time.

Police Appeal After Young Man Seriously Assaulted In Co Down
Police are appealing for witnesses after a young man sustained serious injuries during an assault at an Eleventh night bonfire in Co Down. The attack happened in the Westwinds Estate in Newtownards at around 1am.

Eleventh Night Bonfire 'Deliberately' Set Alight In Lisburn
A bonfire has been set alight in Lisburn in the early hours of Friday morning. The Eleventh Night bonfire at Old Warren is believed to have been lit at around 3am, according to the police. The cause of the fire is being treated as deliberate.
