Integrated School Decision Rejected
Alliance Integrated Education spokesperson Kellie Armstrong MLA has said she is saddened after the first Catholic school in Northern Ireland to try and change to integrated status was not allowed to.
Parents of pupils at Clintyclay Primary School close to Dungannon voted to change to integrated status in 2014, however, it was rejected at the time. Following legal hearings, the Department of Education agreed to look at the proposal. It has now announced it has again rejected the proposal.
Ms Armstrong said: "I am saddened by the Department's decision, as Alliance has consistently shown support for Clintyclay Primary School's transformation to integrated status.
"However, it is important the area has a sustainable primary school, and it is also good news the school remains keen on transformation, so an application to become integrated can be revisited in future.
"It is clear from soundings in the local area there is interest from parents from all sections of the community in establishing the school on an integrated basis. When there is a demand, we must ensure there it is met."
Work To Start On £265,000 Downpatrick Resurfacing Project
Work is to begin on a £265,000 road resurfacing project in Downpatrick.
A 1.75km stretch of the Ardglass Road will undergo repairs from Monday, 23 July.
Works will involve drainage works resurfacing of the road from its junction with Ballyclander Road to Tobermoney. Overall, the scheme will deliver significant improvements to both the structural integrity and surface quality.
Completion is scheduled for Friday, 24 August. Diversions will be in place.
UUP Condemns Parades Commission Decision
North and West Belfast Ulster Unionist representatives have condemned the latest decision by the Parades Commission to prohibit two local lodges from walking along a stretch of the Springfield Road on the Twelfth morning, as another reward for intransigence.
UUP Councillor Robert Foster said: "As a member of West Belfast LOL 739 I must express my deep frustration at the Parades Commission’s ruling to prevent the Lodge and Whiterock LOL 974 making their way along the Springfield Road on the Twelfth, and requiring them to pass through the Mackies’ site, instead of the Workman Avenue gates further along the Springfield Road.
"This is a completely unfair decision which is rewarding intransigence and does nothing to promote good relations or a shared future. It is particularly unfair given that the parade has abided by all previous determinations, whilst protestors have not."

The Alliance party has unveiled a nine-point plan aimed at expanding integrated education in Northern Ireland. Education spokesperson, Eileen Bell said that while integrated education wasn't the total solution to problems locally, it was vital for the future of Northern Ireland if divisions between the two communities were to be overcome.
