Two youths remanded following fatal car crash

Two youths have been remanded in custody following an appearance before Newtownards Magistrates Court in connection with charges relating to a fatal car crash in east Belfast on Sunday.

Matthew Barnes, 17, of Bloomfield Drive in Belfast, and Gary Oscrof, 18, from Cobhan Street, were charged in connection with the fatal crash in which 17-year-old Warren Allen from Cheviot Street in Belfast was killed.

Both youths when charged with theft while using an offensive weapon, a hammer, made no reply.

Matthew Barnes was further charged with causing death by dangerous driving to which he replied "I am really sorry". Gary Oscroft was charged with allowing himself to be driven in a stolen vehicle.

The court heard that both men had handed themselves in to police following the incident and wished their condolences to be passed on to the Warren family.

Both the accused were remanded in custody until January 30.

Man Charged With Supplying Cocaine
A man has appeared in court in Londonderry charged with supplying class A drugs. Twenty-five-year-old Sean Rodgers, from Glenowen Park, appeared at Derry City Magistrates court, accused of possessing cocaine with intent to supply. He also faces charges relating to the possession of cannabis and having £1,835, contrary to the Proceeds of Crime Act.
