Man Injured In Arson Attack In L'Derry

Police have issued an appeal for information following an arson incident in L'Derry.

A man is being treated in hospital for injuries he sustained while trying to extinguish a fire on a vehicle outside a house in the Sevenoaks area of the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police said they believe a gas cylinder was placed in the vehicle and a petrol bomb was thrown at the house at around 3.30am on Sunday 24 June.

The man's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Man questioned about 1988 murder
A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988. The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled. A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.

Police Cancel Appeal For Missing Omagh Man
Police have said they believe missing Omagh man, Shane Sharkey, has been found in the Republic of Ireland. A police appeal for help in finding the 35-year-old has been cancelled, with police saying they now believe they know where he is. No further details have been released but police thanked the public for their help.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.
