Billy Caldwell Moved To London To Fight For Medical Cannabis Access

Charlotte Caldwell has moved her son Billy to London to continue their fight for access to medical cannabis.

Last year 12-year-old Billy, from Co Tyrone, became the first person in the UK to be given a medical prescription for cannabis as treatment for epilepsy. However, the Home Office ordered that the prescription, which Charlotte Caldwell has described as "life-saving", stop earlier this year.

On Monday of this week, Border Force at Heathrow Airport confiscated cannabis oil that Billy's mother Charlotte was attempting to bring into the UK.

Billy is understood to have suffered his first seizure in a year this week after access to his treatment was stopped.

Speaking in a video posted to Facebook, Charlotte thanked the public for their support and said that the situation looked "very, very positive".

She continued: "As you all know we've been campaigning tirelessly for all the younger children as well, so this is not just about getting Billy's medication back.

"This is about getting the medication that these children throughout the United Kingdom desperately need to control their epilepsy.

"Stay with us, we're all working extremely hard here. Myself and Billy as of now are residing in London to make this change. Change is coming. Hold on folks, as I used to say hold onto the seat of your pants. Change is coming and we are confident we are going to get this across the line. So bear with us."
