83-Year-Old Man Pleads Guilty To Historical Sexual Assaults

An 83-year-old man has pled guilty to historical sexual assaults in Belfast.

The PSNI said the offences took place against a teenage boy in the 1980's in the greater Belfast area.

The suspect pled guilty at Belfast Crown Court today, 11 May.

The PSNI said: "Sentencing will take place at a later date."

A 31-year-old human trafficking victim has avoided jail after she was convicted of a similar offence for her involvement with a Romanian crime gang. Elena Cristina Cazacu was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment, suspended for two years, at Belfast Crown Court yesterday, Thursday 04 July.

Marriage increase in Northern Ireland
Latest figures have revealed that there has been an increase in the number of marriages in Northern Ireland. The number for 2006 was just 8,300, a small increase on the 8,100 marriages registered in 2005, the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) said. This is a significant increase on the recent low of 7,300 registered in 2001.

Appeal For Information On Armed Robbery In East Belfast
PSNI Detectives in East Belfast have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following an armed robbery which took place on the Belmont Road on Saturday June 11th. Making the appeal, Detective Sergeant McVeagh said: “Police received a report just after 5pm that a man had entered a shop holding a large kitchen knife in his right hand.
