PSNI Appeal For Information On Newtownabbey Security Alert
The Alliance Party has condemned those behind a viable pipe bomb found during a recent security alert in Newtownabbey.
A suspicious object was discovered in the garden of a home at Arthur Avenue on Sunday, 06 May.
A number of homes in the area were evacuated while police investigated the device.
The device was found to be a viable pipe bomb, which was made safe and removed for further examination.
Police have issued an appeal for information regarding the incident to contact them on 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Alliance's Newtownabbey Councillor, Billy Webb, condemned those behind a pipe bomb found during the security alert.
He said: "This alert caused massive upheaval on a Sunday morning for many residents and those behind it must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Their actions achieve nothing except causing annoyance to the vast majority of people.
"The area is close to a playground and has many children living there, so this incident could have had even more severe consequences. I am grateful to the authorities involved in dealing with matter, including the Council for putting their emergency plan into operation by evacuating residents to the Valley Leisure Centre.
"If anyone has any information on the people behind this device, I urge them to go to police immediately."

Police have declared a security alert in Londonderry was the result of a "viable pipe bomb type device". The alert began with reports of a "loud bang" outside a house in Bann Drive at about 11.15pm on Tuesday, 17 July. It is understood that a man and woman were in the house at the time of the incident but escaped uninjured.

Viable Pipe Bomb Device Found In Newtownabbey
A viable pipe bomb device has been found under a bridge following a security alert in Newtownabbey. The device was discovered at Whitehouse Park at approximately 8.50pm on Saturday. A number of homes were evacuated while the device was examined. All residents returned to their homes at around 1pm on Sunday.

Viable Device Found In Co Tyrone
A viable device has been found following a security alert near Strabane, County Tyrone. A device was found on Ballyheather Road on Tuesday. The road has now been re-opened between the junctions of the Lisdivin Road and Clogher Road. Police and army bomb experts attended the scene.

A pipe bomb may have been thrown at PSNI officers in north Belfast, it has been revealed. The announcement follows the discovery of the device during a security alert on the Whitewell Road on Wednesday night. The viable device was located close to commercial premises and led to a number of homes being evacuated at about 23:00 on Wednesday evening.
