Polls Open In West Tyrone By-Election

Polls have opened to choose a new MP for West Tyrone, in a by-election triggered by the resignation of Sinn Féin's Barry McElduff earlier this year.

Polling booths opened at 7am this morning, Thursday 03 May, and will close at 10pm.

Candidates from Northern Ireland's five main parties are represented on the ballot paper, including:

• Órfhlaith Begley, Sinn Féin

• Thomas Buchanan, Democratic Unionist Party (DUP)

• Stephen Donnelly, Alliance

• Daniel McCrossan, Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP)

• Chris Smyth, Ulster Unionist Party (UUP)

The last Westminster election in the constituency had a 68% turnout.

When polls close ballot boxes will be taken to Omagh, County Tyrone for the count.
