US Firm Takes Control Of Stalled L'Derry Distillery
An American distillery has acquired Niche Drinks in L'Derry for a reported £12m.
Luxco is based in Missouri and owns two whiskey distilleries in Kentucky. The US firm has bought a controlling interest in Niche Drinks. It is understood that the two firms have had a working relationship since the 1980's, when Niche Drinks began producing Saint Brendan's Irish Cream for the US market.
It is understood that the deal gives Luxco ownership of the Quiet Man distillery in Ebrington.
Speaking to BBC Radio Foyle's Mark Patterson Show, Niche Drinks' managing director, Ciaran Mulgrew, said that work on the distillery had slowed last year, following a cancer diagnosis. The new deal will see work start again to complete the distillery.
