Some 200 People Attend Vigil For Bangor Attack Victim
Up to 200 people have held a vigil in Bangor, County Down, following a vicious attack on a 16-year-old girl in the town on Friday, 20 April.
The teenager was attacked by a number of other teenagers and left with severe facial and head injuries. She is continuing to receive treatment in hospital. It has been reported that her injuries are so severe the hospital is unable to take x-rays until at least next week.
A video of the attack was posted to Facebook, before being removed from the social media site.
Three teenagers – a 17-year-old male and two females aged 16 and 18 – have been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent in connection with the attack.
Bangor Mayor, Alderman Robert Adair, said that the vigil was a "message from the people of Bangor tonight is one of solidarity with the victim".
Alliance Councillor Karen Douglas described her shock at reports of the attack: "This appears to have been an extremely vicious attack and my thoughts are with the young person, who I hope will have a full recovery.
"This is an active investigation and I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with the PSNI as soon as possible - every bit of information will help them piece together the events of Friday night."
