Man Charged In Connection With Assault On Pregnant Woman

Police have charged a 35-year-old man in connection with a number of offences, including assaulting a pregnant woman in front of her daughter.

He will appear before Newry Magistrates Court later today, 09 April

Officers were called to a property in the Burren meadow area in Newcastle, County Down at around 5.35am on Sunday, 08 April. The suspect was arrested a short time later in the Westland Avenue area of the town.

It is understood the woman, who was punched and had a bottle smashed over her head during the incident, was left injured and distressed from her ordeal.

The man has been charged with a number of offences including aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and threats to kill.

Man Charged With Manslaughter
A man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a 51-year-old man in Newry. The man died in the Dublin Road area on Wednesday, 17 January. The 32-year-old suspect has also been charged with drugs offences including possession of heroin with intent to supply. He is due to appear before Newry Magistrates Court on Thursday, 18 January.

Police Appeal Following Burglary In Ahoghill
