Ulster blitz Leicester Tigers in Heineken Cup win
Ulster stormed to the top of their Heineken Cup group yesterday after thumping Leicester Tigers 33-0 at Ravenhill Road.
Alan Solomon's men took advantage of the windy conditions to pummel the two times European Cup winners in front of a packed home crowd.
Tries from Tyrone Howe and two from captain Andy Ward helped see Ulster into a 28-0 first half lead.
More of the same followed in the second half with centre Shane Stewart adding a fourth Ulster try, and a bonus point, as Leicester, who started the game with England captain Martin Johnson on the bench, where overpowered in defence.
However, Ulster coach Solomon played down the win: "It was a tremendous effort by the team. Our defensive effort was superb in the second half but there's still a long way to go in the European Cup," he said.
The two sides are set to meet again in the return fixture at Welford Road on 17 January.
