Translink Urges Women To Take Up A Career In Bus Driving

Translink is urging women to find out more about a career as a bus driver.

The firm is encouraging females to take part in 'Have A Go Days' to increase the numbers of women applying.

Translink is currently recruiting for Metro, Glider and Ulsterbus drivers.

Over 100 women will have the opportunity to take part in the sessions that will take place on 10 - 12 April at Nutt's Corner Circuit, Crumlin.

Chris Conway, Translink Group Chief Executive, said: "We want to encourage more women to become bus drivers and reduce any misconceptions out there that it's a male-only career. At Translink, we've over 150 female bus drivers and nearly 100 of them have been with the company for over 10 years.

"More people are choosing public transport as their first choice for travel in Northern Ireland; we operate 12,000 bus services on a daily basis and around 66 million Translink bus journeys are made every year. Our bus drivers really are Translink ambassadors so if you can provide excellent customer care, be professional and reliable plus enjoy getting out and about meeting different types of people, bus driving is an excellent career option.

"There are many reasons to become a Translink bus driver from attractive pay and excellent contributory pension scheme to job security, good holidays and supervised training for a PCV license. Many of our drivers have also been involved in exciting high profile events such as the London Olympics, the Irish Open and the G8.

"Following our last event in 2013, we recruited a number of the women who attended so why not book a place and have a go – it could be the start of an exciting new career."
