Social Media Post About DUP Leader 'Disrespectful And Grossly Offensive'

The SDLP have been criticised for sharing a "disrespectful and grossly offensive" post about DUP leader Arlene Foster on social media.

According to reports, SDLP Councillor for Dungannon Denise Mullen shared a post to a business WhatsApp group which showed an image of Arlene Foster and the caption, "Never mind the beast from the east, here's a c*** from the north".

It is understood that Mrs Mullen described sharing the post as an "innocent mistake" and is said to have issued a full apology.

An SDLP spokesperson has claimed that the post was "accidentally forwarded to the Dungannon Regeneration Partnership (DRP) WhatsApp group by Mrs Mullen's young son while he played with her phone".

They added: "The SDLP understands that Cllr Mullen contacted council officers immediately and has issued a full apology to the DUP for any unintended offence caused."

However, it is understood that the DUP will be contacting SDLP leader Colum Eastwood to demand that action be taken against the Executive member.
