Almost Half Of All Parking Tickets Issued In Belfast
Almost 27,000 penalty charge notices (PCNs) were issued in the three months to December 2017, according to the latest figures from the Department of Infrastructure.
The tickets were issued for on-street parking offences, with some 48% issued in Belfast.
For off-street parking offences, a total of 10,016 PCNs were issued, with 13% (1,317) issued in Belfast and just 2% (217) in Antrim and Newtownabbey.
Other statistics include:
• Bus lanes and bus-only streets: 5,451 PCNs were issued for moving traffic offences in Greater Belfast. Almost four out of five of these contraventions occurred at three locations: Donegall Square East (38%), Great Victoria Street (25%) and College Square East (15%).
Looking at 2017 as a whole, 94,542 on-street offence PCNs were issued, an increase of 11% from 2016 (84,876). 44% of PCNs were issued in Belfast, compared with 41% in 2016.

A number penalty charge notices (PCNs) have been issued incorrectly following a timing error on bus lane enforcement cameras. Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has issued an apology to the motorists affected by the error and said that their tickets will be cancelled and any money already paid will be refunded.

A year after responsibility for parking fines moved from the police to the Department for Regional Development (DRD), more than 140,000 tickets for illegal parking have been issued. New statistics show that since parking enforcement moved from the PSNI last October, 143,564 parking tickets were issued by DRD-contracted National Car Parks wardens.

PSNI detectives have issued an appeal for information following a report of a robbery in east Belfast this morning, Wednesday 13th December. At around 6.15am, it was reported to police that two men, with their faces covered, robbed a shop in the Ballygowan Road area.
