Almost Half Of All Parking Tickets Issued In Belfast
Almost 27,000 penalty charge notices (PCNs) were issued in the three months to December 2017, according to the latest figures from the Department of Infrastructure.
The tickets were issued for on-street parking offences, with some 48% issued in Belfast.
For off-street parking offences, a total of 10,016 PCNs were issued, with 13% (1,317) issued in Belfast and just 2% (217) in Antrim and Newtownabbey.
Other statistics include:
• Bus lanes and bus-only streets: 5,451 PCNs were issued for moving traffic offences in Greater Belfast. Almost four out of five of these contraventions occurred at three locations: Donegall Square East (38%), Great Victoria Street (25%) and College Square East (15%).
Looking at 2017 as a whole, 94,542 on-street offence PCNs were issued, an increase of 11% from 2016 (84,876). 44% of PCNs were issued in Belfast, compared with 41% in 2016.

Motorcyclist Seriously Injured In East Belfast Crash
A motorcyclist is in a serious condition in hospital following a crash in east Belfast on Wednesday evening. Police received a report of a collision involving a car and a scrambler motorcycle on Bloomfield Road shortly before 5.30pm. Emergency services attended the scene, and the motorcyclist, a man in his late teens, was taken to hospital.

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has issued an apology to the motorists affected by the error and said that their tickets will be cancelled and any money already paid will be refunded.

Schools Warned Of 'Disruption' During Giro
The Department of Education has warned parents and families in the Greater Belfast area to expect "some disruption to schools" this Friday as a result of the Giro d'Italia bicycle race. This year's race begins in Belfast and will take in the Antrim Coast as well as parts of Armagh, before heading to Dublin for the final Irish leg.

Prison Officer Arrested In Drugs Bust
A prison officer has been arrested while on duty at Maghaberry jail on suspicion of drugs offences. The warder was detained on Monday at the prison and was then handcuffed and led away by detectives. His east Belfast home was extensively searched by police during the day after rest rooms used by staff serving at the prison were also searched.
