NI public urged to sign up to Holocaust principles
Members of the public are being urged to affirm their support for the principles of Holocaust Memorial Day by signing public Books of Commitment.
With Northern Ireland hosting the 2004 UK Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January, people are being asked to sign each book which contain the seven Statements of Commitment, underpinning the objectives of the Day.
In recognition that 2004 will mark the 10th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda which resulted in the deaths of up to a million people in a little over 100 days, the theme for the 2004 national commemoration will be 'From the Holocaust to Rwanda: lessons learned, lessons still to learn'.
The main commemoration on 27 January will be at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast with events including;
Holocaust Memorial Day was agreed on 27 January 2000, between 44 governments, including the UK, who attended the Stockholm Forum on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research.
The Forum set out to give support, education and research and to better equip governments to combat racism, anti-Semitism and intolerance as they manifest themselves in contemporary society.

Tuesday 20 January, 7.45 pm, Ulster Hall, Belfast - Remember Rwanda, 10 Years On – Talk by survivors of the genocide
Tuesday 20 January, 8.00 pm Verbal Arts Centre, Londonderry
Wednesday 21 January, 1.10 pm, Linen Hall Library, Belfast

Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration Held At Belfast City Hall
The Executive Office (EO) have hosted a Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) Commemoration at Belfast City Hall, where almost 300 people gathered to to remember the millions of victims and survivors of the Holocaust and those impacted by the horrors of more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Full details of the public events planned to commemorate Northern Ireland’s hosting of the UK Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January 2004 were launched in Belfast today. The Lord Mayor, Councillor Martin Morgan, who hosted the launch, urged people across the country to take part in the commemoration which begins on January 5.
