Belfast best for city breaks
Belfast has been awarded the title of Best City Break Destination in Europe.
The city was chosen above other destinations in Europe by travel writers who judged Belfast to have the best overall visitor attractions, accessibility and welcome at the Evening Herald Travel awards in London.
Commenting on its choice, Stephen Rae of the Evening Herald said: "This is the third year of the Evening Herald Travel Awards. In previous years Copenhagen and Helsinki have taken the honours, so Belfast is in very good company."
Gerry Lennon, Chief Executive of the Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau added: "We are delighted that the city of Belfast has achieved such recognition as a great place to enjoy a short break.
"At BVCB we have been working hard to promote the city as an ideal short break destination, succeeding in 2002 in welcoming over 700,000 staying visitors. We are expecting our 2003 visitor figures to show a further increase as Belfast succeeds in attracting more leisure and conference visitors."
In addition to the overall award won by the City of Belfast, local hotel and BVCB member the Holiday Inn came third in the Best Hotel category.

Aer Lingus Flights To Switch To Belfast City Airport
Aer Lingus is to switch it operations from Belfast International Airport to George Best Belfast City Airport, it has been unveiled. It is believed flights could be moved in the coming weeks and a formal announcement will be made. It follows the end of BMI Baby Services from the City Airport, which carried 400,000 passengers every year.
