Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A man has been convicted for claiming £17,181 benefits he was not entitled to at Belfast Crown Court.
Colin Clarkin claimed Income Support totalling £17,181 while failing to declare income. He was given 100 hours community service and 12 months probation.
The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
Construction Work To Start On Road Improvement Project In Co Down
Construction work on a £350,000 road improvement project in Co Down is to start in January next year.
The work on the A50 Ballyward Road, from the Flush Road junction to the Gargarry Road/Clanmaghhery Road junction, will begin on Monday 08 January and is expected to be completed by 02 March.
During the works the A50 Ballyward Road will be closed from Monday 08 January to Friday 02 March from 9am to 4.30pm, however it will be open at weekends and evenings.
The diversion route will be signed via A50 Ballyward Road, B7 Dromara Road/Tirkelly Road/Ballyroney Road/Dromore Street, A25 Main Street/Downpatrick Street/Castlewellan Road/Dublin Road and A50 Bann Road.
2018 Líofa Gaeltacht Bursary Scheme To Open To Applications In January
Sinn Féin MLA Maírtín Ó Muilleoir has welcomed an announcement from the Department for Communities that the 2018 Líofa Gaeltacht Bursary Scheme will open for applications from the 3rd of January 2018.
He said: "I congratulate Carál Ní Chuilín for the initiative, which has exceeded it's 2020 target of 20,000 this year.
"Hopefully today's announcement means that discrimination against Irish-speaking children will not be tolerated in the future.
"The Irish language belongs to us all and it is time that an Irish Language Act was introduced so that Irish speakers and learners are afforded the same rights as citizens across these islands."

A man has died in a workplace accident in Co Armagh. It is believed the man was crushed by a road roller while a new road surface was being laid on the Bog Road, Forkhill, on Wednesday, 31 May. Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation.

Woman Killed In Co Armagh Road Collision
A woman in her 30s has been killed in a road crash in Portadown, Co Armagh. The woman was hit by a car as she was walking on the side of the Moy Road at around 9.45pm on Tuesday. The road was closed for a short time but it has been reopened. Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
