Missing Child Rescued From NI River

A 12-year-old child who was reported missing has been found waist deep in a river in Northern Ireland.

Officers from the Magherafelt Local Policing Team were carrying out searches after the child had gone missing from home.

Officers had to enter the water following concerns for the child's health and safety.

The child was taken to Antrim Area Hospital to be treated.

Chief Inspector Robinson said: "This was outstanding Police work by all the officers involved, if it had not been for their actions this could have been a very different outcome."

According to recent research more needs to be done to get children in Northern Ireland out of Poverty, with the British Government being blamed for the elimination target slipping. The charity Barnardos has revealed that two areas in Northern Ireland have two of the highest rates of child poverty in the UK.

Four Arrested Over Serious Historical Child Abuse
Four men have been arrested in connection with an investigation into allegations of serious historical child abuse in Co Down. The men were detained by the PSNI Public Protection Branch in Newtownards, Lisburn and Newcastle areas on Monday, 16 April. Another male was arrested in the Downpatrick area.
