Woman And Child Escape Injury After House Attacked In North Belfast

A woman and her child have escaped injury after their home was attacked in north Belfast.

A brick was thrown at the window of the house in the York Road area shortly before 10.30pm on Thursday, 02 November.

Police said they are treating the attack as a "hate crime".

Damage was caused to the outer pane of glass, however no-one was injured in the incident.

PSNI Inspector Fairfield said: "Police are treating this incident as a hate crime and are appealing to anyone who was in the York Road area last night and who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact officers in Tennent Street on 101 quoting reference number 1493 02/11/17.Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Alliance Councillor Nuala McAllister condemned the attack.

She said: "This sort of behaviour is not representative of the majority in north Belfast, who want to see their community remain open, welcoming and inclusive.

"I wholeheartedly condemn those behind this attack, who put the lives of a woman and her young child at risk with their attempts at intimidation.

"Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home and as a community we must stand together and refuse to allow this type of behaviour to become the norm on our streets. I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible."

Police have appealed for information after a woman was sexually assaulted in north Belfast yesterday evening. The incident happened shortly before 6pm in the Woodvale Park area of the city, when the victim, who is understood to be in her late teens, was attacked by two men. Police And Firefighters Attacked In North Belfast
Police officers and firefighters came under attack as they were responding to a urgent call from a member of the public in north Belfast. The incident happened in the New Lodge area on Tuesday, 02 October. A crowd of youths also barricaded roads with stolen bins which were set alight and fireworks, masonry and trees were thrown at police vehicles.

Two Youths Attacked In North Belfast
Two teenagers have been attacked in north Belfast. The incident happened in the Ardoyne Road area just after 3pm on Saturday. The youths, aged 13 and 14, were assaulted by two men and police are treating it as a "sectarian hate crime".

House Attacked In North Belfast
Police are treating a house attack as a racist hate crime after oil was thrown over a property in north Belfast. The incident happened in the North King Street area between 8am and 5.30pm on Wednesday. No-one was in the house at the time, however the front window and the door were damaged. Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly condemned the attack.
