Firefighters Attacked During Halloween Calls

A number of firefighters have been attacked while responding to Halloween call outs on Tuesday, 31 October.

The incidents happened in Armagh, Keady, Crossmaglen and Belfast.

No one was injured, however an appliance was slightly damaged in Keady.

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) received 210 calls and attended 136 incidents across Northern Ireland.

69 of the incidents were fire related, and 63 are believed to have been started deliberately.

'Relatively Quiet' Halloween Night For NI Firefighters

According to the latest records, one in five 999 calls in Northern Ireland last year did not actually require emergency assistance. Approximately 28,500 calls made last year did not require the expertise of a paramedic when they arrived at the scene.

Negligence Costs Dept Of Health £116m
The cost of settling health and social care negligence cases in Northern Ireland has cost the Department of Health £116m over the past five years, according to a new report. Many patients in Northern Ireland are suffering from largely preventable harm through services provided by Health and Social Care Trusts, the report said.
