Work begins on new industrial plant in Lisburn
Work on Northern Ireland’s first industrial plant based on digital manufacturing techniques began in Lisburn today with the promise of 50 new jobs.
The McAvoy Group plant is being constructed to support the firms range of steel modular buildings aimed at both the domestic and export markets.
Commenting on the £5 million investment, McAvoy Group Managing Director Orla Corr said: "This impressive, innovative project has involved McAvoy’s working in partnership with the Northern Ireland Technology Centre at Queen’s University, through the Invest NI Compete Research & Development programme.
“Through the use of digital manufacturing techniques, the McAvoy Group can validate the impact of potential investments in plant and equipment and also evaluate the effect of implementing changes in processes, before finalising the factory layout and purchasing machinery."
The 70,000 sq foot factory will be situated at Knockmore Hill Industrial Park in the city.

Police investigate fire at recycling plant
Police are investigating a fire at a paper recycling plant in County Armagh. The fire was discovered at around 10pm last night in the Carn Industrial estate in Portadown and substantial damage was caused to the premises. Seven fire crews were involved in tackling the blaze, which took two hours to bring under control.

Minister Reacts To Teachers' Union Ballot Threat
Education Minister Paul Givan has responded to the announcement by several teachers' unions that they plan to ballot their members for industrial action over 2024/25 pay. Earlier this year, the Minister provided funding to successfully resolve the long-running industrial dispute over teachers' pay for 2021-24.

Fire Crews Tackle Industrial Recycling Plant Fire
An industrial recycling plant in Omagh, Co Tyrone, is on fire, with more than 50 firefighters at the scene. It is understood the fire broke out at RecyCo, on the Barony Road, Mountfield, in the early hours of Monday morning.

86,000 Young Trees Culled In Ash Dieback Control
Some 86,000 young trees have been destroyed to prevent the spread of 'Ash Dieback' into the wider environment, according to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. "Over 3,000 site inspections have been carried out since the disease was first found here in November 2012," said Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill.
