Consultation document on sexual health released
Health Minister, Angela Smith has published a Sexual Health Promotion Strategy and Action Plan consultation document.
The Minister said the introduction of the plan was necessary because of the importance of sexual health as part of physical and mental health, as well as emotional and social wellbeing.
“The Strategy aims to improve, protect and promote the sexual health and wellbeing of the population of Northern Ireland," the Minister said.
"Actions are proposed in the areas of prevention, education and training, services and data collection and research, and require the statutory, voluntary and community sectors to work together in partnership.”
Comments on the Strategy and Action Plan are invited by Friday 19 March 2004. Following consideration of the responses, the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety will publish the Strategy and Action Plan, and establish a multi-agency Implementation Group to take forward the agreed action points.
The Consultation Strategy and Action Plan was developed by an inter-sectoral Working Group, including representatives from the statutory, voluntary and community sectors. Dr Lorraine Doherty, Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, chairs the Group.
