Get qualified now and teach English abroad
Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) is an excellent career path with a huge number of jobs available throughout the world, from mainland Europe through Eastern Europe and the Middle East, to Indonesia, the Orient, North and South America.
With the industry in excess of £7 billion a year, TEFL really is a springboard to a truly portable career.
So how do you become a TEFL teacher? First, get yourself qualified with a certified TEFL course at Foyle Language School. There was a day when English Language Teaching Jobs were readily available to those with no formal TEFL qualifications but, with an average of 200 applications for each EFL post advertised, it is now more important than ever before for the TEFL teacher to participate in a recognized course and gain a recognised qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Courses are available full time, part time or by distance learning and there are three levels of certification available: Preliminary Certificate (40 hours over 2 weeks), Foundation Certificate (70 hours over 3 weeks) and Advanced International Certificate (100 hours). The Advanced course is only offered as a top up module, available in February and June, for those who have completed up to Foundation level.
Students are taught the full range of skills required to teach English, including vocabulary, grammar, theory, lesson planning, phonetics and, most importantly, actual teaching practice with foreign students.
The next full-time course starts on Monday 26th January 04 and runs for 2 weeks at preliminary level, 3 weeks at foundation level and 5 weeks at Advanced level.
There is also a NEW “top up” advanced module to take past Foundation level students up to advanced level. This module lasts for 2 weeks from 16th to 27th February 04.
The next evening course starts on Monday 1st March and runs for 6 weeks for preliminary and 11 weeks for foundation levels.

As the year runs by we begin to assess our career and wonder if we would be more satisfied had we went down a different career path. Today more people are becoming proactive in changing careers to follow the path they have always wanted to go down. This has resulted in increase enrolments in Adult education all over Ireland.
