Loyalist fails in court bid to overturn sentence
A leading loyalist has failed in his attempt to have a two-year jail sentence overturned.
Andre Shoukri, from Sunningdale Gardens in Belfast, was jailed in July after being found guilty of possessing a gun and ammunition in suspicious circumstances.
The 26-year-old was also sentenced for two years to run concurrently on charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition without certificates.
However, he was cleared of possession with the intent to endanger life.
Mr Shoukri was not in court today to hear the ruling from the Appeal Court judges who said his sentence was fully merited as the gun had been obtained illicitly together with a significant amount of ammunition.
Shoukri had originally denied the charges, saying the gun was for his own personal protection following death threats he had received.
The weapon and a quantity of ammunition was discovered when the car he was travelling in was stopped and searched as he left the loyalist Rathcoole area in September last year.
Although he initially denied all knowledge of the weapon, it is understood that he later admitted to police that the weapon had been acquired as personal protection following a death treat from other loyalists.

Gun And Ammunition Found In South Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after a gun and ammunition were recovered during a search in south Belfast. The discovery was made in the Annadale Crescent area on Wednesday, 16 November. The items have been taken away for forensic examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Gun and ammunition find linked to shooting
A man who was found with a bullet wound to his head in Co Londonderry on Wednesday has been named. Darren Thompson, 22, from Harkness Gardens in the Waterside, was found lying at the roadside in Woodburn Park.
