Connecting with employment for disabled people
A new project aimed at promoting work opportunities for disabled people has been launched.
'Connect-ability' aims to explore the barriers that restrict disabled people who wish to enter training and paid employment in Northern Ireland.
It will also enable research to be undertaken to build an informed analysis of the barriers, and the positive opportunities, in relation to disabled people's experiences of seeking and obtaining work and what it means to them.
Over 400 companies and 600 disabled people have been approached to provide feedback on their views and experiences relating to employment issues.
It is intended that the findings of this research will act as a catalyst to attract more disabled people to consider employment opportunities, and to further widen work prospects by making more employers aware of the advantages of employing people with disabilities.
Ulster Supported Employment Ltd (USEL), Lloyds TSB Foundation and the Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education's Centre for Applied Research and Development will promote the work which takes place during this the European Year of Disabled People.

Staff Member Suspended As Care Home Abuse Probed
A member of staff at a County Derry care home has been suspended over the alleged abuse of a resident. The PSNI have confirmed that they will investigate the claim at Longfield Care Centre in Eglinton, after the alleged abuse was brought to their attention on 7 July.
