Man Arrested In Connection With Disorder In Markets Area

A man is due to appear in court charged in connection with violent disturbances in the Markets area of Belfast last week.

Trouble began in the area last Monday, 07 August, when council workers removed bonfire materials.

Police were attacked with petrol bombs, stones and other missiles, and two cars were destroyed when they were set on fire.

Police investigating the incidents detained a 32-year-old man on Wednesday, 16 August. It is understood that he has been charged with riot, throwing a petrol bomb and aggravated taking and driving away.

PSNI Confirms Flag Violence Arrests
The PSNI has confirmed a total of eight arrests were made as a result of disorder over the Belfast City Hall union flag issue. Three police officers were injured when missiles ranging from petrol bombs, paint bombs, fireworks and heavy masonry were thrown by loyalist protesters. PSNI vehicles were attacked with hatchets and sledge hammers.

Police Appeal After Children Cause Disorder In L'Derry
Police are appealing for information after children aged between 10 and 12 were reportedly causing disorder in L'Derry. The incident happened on the Madam's Bank Road area shortly before 9pm on Wednesday. Police received reports that several young people were throwing petrol bombs onto the road and setting traffic lights on fire.

Two Men Charged With The Murder Of Lyra McKee
Two men have been charged with the murder of Lyra McKee. Journalist Lyra McKee (29) was fatally shot as she observed rioting in the Creggan estate in L'Derry in April 2019. Four men were arrested earlier this week by detectives investigating Ms McKee's death. Two of the men, aged 21 and 33, have now been charged with her murder.

Teenager Arrested After Two Police Officers Injured In Belfast
A 16-year-old girl has been arrested after two police officers were injured as trouble flared in Belfast overnight. Petrol bombs and masonry were thrown at the officers in the Woodvale Road area at around 12.50am on Wednesday. No petrol bombs made contact, however two police officers were injured after bottles were thrown at them.

Shot Fired At Police In Lurgan
A gunshot was fired and over 100 petrol bombs thrown at police cordons in Lurgan, Co Armagh. The incident occurred in the Lake Street area on Sunday night. A total of 25 paint bombs, bricks and other masonry were also thrown by a large crowd who gathered at around 9pm and remained until the early hours of the morning.
