Taoiseach To Attend Belfast Pride Festival

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has confirmed he will be attending the Belfast Pride Festival this weekend.

He said that he will attend a Pride Breakfast in Belfast on Saturday, 05 August.

Director of the Rainbow Project John O'Doherty said: "We are delighted that An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will be attending Belfast Pride this year. It is a testament to how far social attitudes have changed on this island that the marriage referendum was overwhelmingly passed and just two years later, the Republic's government is led by an openly gay man.

"Obviously Leo has been very forthright in his support for marriage equality in Northern Ireland and we know that his presence at Belfast Pride will be greatly appreciated by those in attendance.

"We hope that it will not be long before the consensus on LGBT equality which has been achieved in the Republic is mirrored in all parts of this island."
