Neighbours Rescue Man From House Fire In West Belfast
A man has been rescued by neighbours from a house fire in west Belfast.
The fire broke out at a property in Glasvery Gardens at around 2.45am on Wednesday, 19 July.
The blaze caused extensive damage to the house.
Neighbours helped the man at the scene and he was treated for smoke inhalation.
A number of residents were evacuated while the fire was put out.
Sinn Féin MLA Órlaithí Flynn said: "This could have been a tragic event but for the quick thinking of the man's neighbours who ensured he was able to exit the house without injury.
"The property has suffered extensive damage and I have been in touch with the Housing Executive to see about fixing the property and getting accommodation for the man.
"I would advise people to check their smoke alarms and to make a fire escape plan."

Police are treating a house fire in Antrim as suspicious. Emergency services were called to a house fire at Mallusk Gardens at 00:50am. Extensive damage was caused to the living room and there was smoke damage to the property. No one was in the house at the time.

THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.

A woman in her 30s has died in a fire at a house in Newtownards, Co. Down. The fire occurred at a house in Ilex Avenue at around 5.30pm and the woman is reported to have died at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of the death is being conducted by police who have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
