Warning Issued Over Bogus Charity Fundraising Calls

The PSNI have issued a warning over a "very convincing" bogus calls, claiming to be calling from a government department.

Police said that they have received a number of reports of the phone scam, which they said had the "singular aim" of gaining access to people's money.

It is understood that the scam caller variously claims to be from a government department and businesses and claims to be fundraising for charity.

Police said anyone with suspicions about a caller should report to Action Fraud via their website www.actionfraud.police.uk or by phoning 0300 123 2040.

Police deny fraud phone calls
Police in Dungannon have denied allegations that an officer is making calls to local businesses in an attempt to defraud them. Detectives at the station say a man is making phone calls to businesses in the mid-Ulster area claiming to be an officer from the station collecting money for a "999 charity".
