Cyclist Dies Following Collision Near Conlig

Police in Newtownards have appealed for information following a fatal road traffic collision near Conlig.

A man, aged 40, was cycling with two others when they were struck by a white Hyundai car on the Bangor-bound carriageway shortly before 2pm on Tuesday, 11 July.

The man died in hospital from injuries sustained in the collision. The two other cyclists were also treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The 59-year-old driver of the car was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody.

Inspector Stephen McGuigan said: "I would ask anyone who was travelling on the Newtownards Road near Conlig at the time of the collision and who may have information which could assist us with our enquiries to contact officers at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101."

A man has been injured in a two-car collision in east Belfast. The crash happened on the Upper Newtownards Road just before 10.30am on Tuesday, 23 May. The man has been taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries. The road has been re-opened.

School closures to be confirmed
The South East Education and Library Board (SEELB) is due to meet today to confirm the closure of four schools in Northern Ireland. It is understood that approximately 15 other schools could also be closed or amalgamated. The SEELB have already cast their votes to shut specific schools due to a decline in pupil numbers.
