Large Quantity Of Ammunition Found In West Belfast

Two people have been arrested after a large quantity of ammunition was found during searches in west Belfast.

A number of items have been taken away for further examination, according to the police.

The suspects, who were arrested in the Beechmount Close area and detained under the Terrorism Act, have been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

The device was an explosively formed projectile which is designed to attack armoured vehicles and kill the occupants within, according to the police. The discovery was made in the Pantridge Road area on 30 October.

Two Men Arrested Over Bomb Found In West Belfast Released
Two men arrested in connection with a bomb found during a security alert in west Belfast have been released unconditionally. A viable bomb was discovered on the Brian's Well Road in Poleglass on Sunday, 15 January. Police said the device was designed to "kill or seriously" injure officers serving in the local community.

Woman Arrested After Gun Is Found In West Belfast
A woman has been arrested after a suspected gun, ammunition and other items were found in west Belfast. Police were alerted to the property in Magnolia Park in Twin Brook on Sunday. Officers from the army bomb squad removed the items for forensic testing. The woman has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Warning Signs To Be Installed To Prevent Use Of Scramblers
Warning signs are to be installed across west Belfast to warn against the use of off-road vehicles being used in parks and public spaces. Police will also patrol hotspot areas to disrupt the dangerous, illegal activity and identify the people involved. The scheme has been launched by the West Belfast DPCSP and the PSNI.

UDA bomb move 'not an act of decommissioning'
Police last night discovered 18 pipe bombs on playing fields at Somerdale Park in the Crumlin Road area of north Belfast. The Ulster Defence Association (UDA) claimed it left the devices in the playing fields "as part of the ongoing steps to stabilise and normalise loyalist west Belfast".
