Man Dies In Co Down Road Collision

A man has died in a car crash just outside Downpatrick in Co Down.

The 18-year-old was driving a Peugeot 207 on the Ballydugan Road at around 10.30pm on Tuesday, 18 April.

The road remains closed between Bonecastle Road and Buckshead Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

SDLP South Down MP Margaret Ritchie SAID: "The sobering news that an 18-year-old man has died following a crash last night has shocked the community in Downpatrick.

"The loss of any life on our roads is a shock but to lose someone so young, with so much to live for, is a profound tragedy.

"My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with this young man’s family and friends at this terrible time. I have no doubt that local people will rally around and offer whatever support they can."

Serious Road Crash In L'Derry
A serious road crash has occurred on the Chapel Road in L'Derry. A car and a motorbike where involved in the incident, according to the police. One man, believed to be a teenager, has been taken to hospital where his injuries are believed to be serious. The road has been closed at its junctions with Newlyn Terrace and Spencer Road.

Police Appeal For Witnesses To Fatal Road Crash
The PSNI have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road crash involving a motorcycle and a car. The accident happened on the Monagh Road in Turf Lodge on Saturday. A 20-year-old man died in the collision. Police say that the death is the 57th fatality on NI roads so far this year. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police.
