Vigil To Be Held For Martin McGuinness

A vigil is to be held for former first minister Martin McGuinness in west Belfast tonight, 21 March.

Mr McGuinness, aged 66, died following a short illness at Altegelvin Hospital in L'Derry.

In a statement, Sinn Fein said: "Sinn Féin activists and republicans from throughout Belfast will gather tonight at 7.30pm at the former Andersonstown Barracks site, at the junction of the Glen Road and the Falls Road to mark the death of our friend and comrade Martin McGuinness."

Tributes have been paid to the mother of Martin McGuinness (pictured) who died today, following a short illness. Sinn Fein said 84-year-old Peggy McGuinness had died peacefully at her Londonderry home this morning. Friends and Family are said to be comforting Mr McGuinness.

Call For Support System For Abuse Victims 'During The Conflict'
Sinn Féin has called for all-Ireland support mechanisms for the victims of sexual abuse "during the conflict". Police in Northern Ireland are seeking more time to question Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams The Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness confirmed the move. On Friday morning, it was reported that Mr Adams had spent a second night in custody as detectives continued to question him over the abduction and murder of Jean McConville in 1972.
