Workers at Shorts receive warning over industrial action
Managers at Shorts in Belfast have warned employees that they will be sent home with no pay if they engage in industrial action.
The warning from senior management came as Amicus union members today were apparently refusing to comply with the operation of an automated clocking-in system that management claim is vital to the operation of the workplace and to meet Civil Aviation Authority regulations.
The action, culminating in a sit-in protest, has arisen subsequent to a failure to reach a resolution in a long running dispute over pay and conditions at the Belfast-based aerospace plant owned by Bombardier.
It is understood that TGWU members are poised to take similar action on Saturday, if there is no change in the situation at the plant.
However, management at Shorts have appealed for the unions to re-commence talks, which broke down without agreement in the first week of November.
