Cannabis worth £1.5m seized at Belfast docks
Cannabis worth an estimated street value of £1.5 million was seized by police at Belfast docks on Thursday.
One man was arrested during the operation in which a lorry was stopped as it arrived off the Stranraer ferry.
Head of the Drugs Squad D/Supt. George McAuley said: “Today’s seizure is another example of the serious threat posed by drugs to society in Northern Ireland and of the Police Service’s commitment to thwart this at every available opportunity”.
Today's seizure is the latest by police in a week which has seen more than £2 million worth of cannabis, ecstasy and cocaine intercepted by the drugs squad.
Today's haul is the second largest of its kind in Northern Ireland.

Police have seized drugs worth an estimated £80,000 in Omagh, Co Tyrone. Herbal cannabis, diazepam tablets and a significant amount of cash were also uncovered during a house search on Wednesday, 24 August. A 23-year-old man has been charged in connection with the seizures.
